The word "Angel" comes from the Greek word angelos   meaning "messenger".

In both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible, Angels have often brought God's message to God's servants and have mediated the prayers and supplications of humans back to God. They have also acted independently to provide comfort, help and protection to the people of the earth. The healing power of connecting to Angels is legendary.

Angels and Archangels have also been important as mediators of divine intervention e.g. Saint Michael the Archangel intervened to stop Abraham sacrificing his son Isaac - Saint Michael substituted a ram in place of Isaac. In the book of Genesis, Archangel Michael also saved Jacob, while yet in his mother's womb, from being killed by Samael.

Even in modern times there have been many experiences where angels have appeared at a moment of great crisis or danger and saved someone from a certain accident, death or injury. Angels have also appeared in visions, dreams, meditations or subtle presences to comfort people at a time of great pain or suffering.

Human & Animal Angels
It is important to remember that angels also appear in human form - as healers, comforters, practical helpers, business angels etc - and also as "little angels" in child form and even as animals that act as our comforters, teachers and healers. We have all encountered human angels and angelic qualities in our life. They remind us that within each of us there is an angel that we might choose to express and manifest in the world - bringing joy, truth, justice, support, healing, inner beauty, divine radiance and comfort to others.

Connecting with Angelic Ancestors
Just because departed loved ones, saints and heroic ancestors are no longer with us in this earthly life there is no reason to feel alone and separated from them. We can connect with them, or with the personal and spiritual qualities that they remind us of, via meditation or prayer. We can also keep a picture or object that reminds us of them around us in the home, at work, or by our bedside.

In the bible, the Archangels Michael, Gabriel, Raphael and Uriel were specially chosen to "stand beside God’s throne".
